RNA - One of the most important policies of the Islamic Republic of Iran is to continue its serious fight against the ominous phenomenon of terrorism in the region, Chairman of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi said in a speech at a ceremony held in Tehran on Wednesday marking Pakistan’s National Day.

A number of Iranian and foreign officials, including ambassadors of Pakistan, Russia, Ecuador, Syria, Afghanistan, Lebanon, Iraq and Cuba were present at the event.

The Iranian official further expressed the hope for sustainable peace and security in the Middle East, calling on the US to, instead of dropping bombs, send a message of peace and friendship and help enhance security in the volatile region.

Elsewhere in his speech, Boroujerdi described Iran-Pakistan ties as “historical” and stressed that the two neighboring countries have inseparable bonds.

The Pakistani ambassador also addressed the conference and said Tehran and Islamabad share a common stance on regional developments, hoping for daily progress in the two nations’ ties.

Tehran and Islamabad have always maintained good relationship and worked to further develop their bilateral relations in recent years.

In 2016, high-ranking officials from Iran and Pakistan signed six memorandums of understanding (MoUs) to strengthen cooperation in various areas, including health, commerce, security and foreign services.

The documents were signed in a ceremony in Islamabad on March 26, attended by Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
