RNA - In a message to the speaker of Egypt’s House of Representatives, Ali Abdel Aal Sayyed Ahmed, on Monday, Larijani condemned the terrorist bomb explosions at two Coptic churches in different cities in northern Egypt, which killed more than 40 Christians.

“Terrorism is a threat to the followers of all divine religions and humans and is in contravention of all divine values and teachings,” the top Iranian parliamentarian said.

He stressed the importance of boosting interaction and cooperation among countries to fight this ominous phenomenon, emphasizing that the “Iranian nation is itself a victim of indiscriminate terrorism and stands by the Egyptian people in the battle against terrorism.”

Larijani also expressed sympathy with the speaker of Egypt's House of Representatives, people and the bereaved families of the victims.

Sunday's first bombing at the St. George's Church in the Nile Delta city of Tanta, north of the capital Cairo, killed 28 people, the Health Ministry said.

The second bombing struck outside Saint Mark's Church in Alexandria, the historic seat of Christendom in Egypt, killing 17 people after a terrorist bomber was prevented from entering the building.

Later on Sunday, the Daesh Takfiri terrorist group released a statement through Amaq news agency, which is affiliated with the terrorist outfit, claiming responsibility for both church bombings in the Arab country.

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi on Sunday denounced the bomb blasts, warning of bids to sow discord among followers of divine religions.

“Such criminal measures are planned and implemented in order to incite religious discord and create terror and division among followers of divine religions,” Qassemi said.

He urged cooperation and vigilance among regional governments and nations to thwart such plots.
