RNA - Shamkhani's remarks came in reaction to the recent US aerial bombardment of a residential area to the West of the city of Mosul which resulted in death of tens of civilians.

"This war crime is similar to the behavior of the ISIL and other terrorist groups in targeting the civilians and it should be dealt with in the international courts of justice," Shamkhani said.

He reiterated that the US cannot shrug responsibility in this regard.

On Friday, at least 200 people, many of whom were civilians, were killed in airstrikes in the Northern Iraqi city of Mosul, local media outlets said.

Some 130 people have been killed in one house in Mosul's Jadida neighborhood and around 100 others hit inside another, Rudaw reported.

The people were taking shelter inside homes when the airstrike hit the buildings.

According to Rudaw, ISIL terrorists could also be among the dead. The terrorists are reportedly entrenched inside civilian homes, while Al Masdar said in its account of the incident that the airstrike was conducted by US-led coaliton's fighter jets.

"Some of the dead were taking shelter inside the homes," Rudaw's reporter said.
