RNA - Federal Police Chief, Raed Shaker Jawdat, said in a press statement that Federal Police troops and Rapid Response forces are only 600 meters away from al-Hadba Minaret and the Great Mosque of Nuri, where the ISIL ringleader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi made his infamous speech in 2014, Iraqi News reported.
"Our drones also continue to monitor the movement of terrorists in the area surrounding the mosque," Jawdat added.
Joint security force, backed by Army Aviation and thier other allied forces, continue the operation to liberate the city of Mosul and drive out the ISIL militants.
As clashes between Iraqi forces and Daesh are intensifying in the Old City, thousands of Iraqis have managed to flee the areas under the control of the terrorists.
Earlier, Iraqi police announced that they had found a ISIL prison in the Bab al-Saray area, during an operation in the city.
Colonel Khodier Saleh said that 10 prisoners were found in the prison, which was only accessible from a tunnel. He added that light weapons and several important documents were also found in the prison.
