RNA - “The Islamic Republic of Iran is capable of confronting any threat in the world’s free waters,” Rear Admiral Sayyari said.

The Iranian Navy commander reiterated that full security has been restored to Bab al-Mandab Strait which is 3,000 kilometers away from Iran, and said, “The Iranian Navy is actively present in Bab al-Mandab Strait region."

Admiral Sayyari said that 90 percent of imports and exports take place via sea, adding, "Today the Gulf of Aden is the most important venue for imports and exports."

He noted that a total of 3,900 cargo ships and oil tankers have been escorted in the current year to help the country’s economy remain unharmed.

"Given the capabilities we have gained today we will continue this path with honor in defending the sea borders in the high seas and as Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has said free waters belong to all nations, therefore we can navigate in the free waters," Admiral Sayyari said.

In mid-February, Sayyari underlined that Tehran is resolved to boost its deterrence power and has never planned aggression against any other country.

"Our strategy and doctrine is enhancement of defense power based on deterrence and we are not and will not at all think about aggression against others" but if a country thinks of aggression against Iran, it will receive such a response that will make it regret its deeds, Admiral Sayyari said, addressing a gathering of Navy commanders in Tehran.
