Rasa - Several people were injured during clashes between protesters and Indian forces in Shopian district in Indian-controlled Kashmir on Monday.

RNA - The protest erupted against a cordon and search operation launched by the Indian forces in in Pinjoora area of Shopian district, Kashmir News reported. 

 

The operation, however, was called off after forces were strongly resisted by protesters.The Indian forces were forced to stop their security operation after clashes continued incessantly during the operation.

 

Meanwhile, local reports said police used violence against employees of National Health Mission during a protest rally towards Chief Minister’s residence in Srinagar. Many employees were injured during the protest against policies of the local authorities bearing negative effects on the people.

 

On the other side, police and the Indian army routinely complain that civilians assist militants during clashes with armed forces, a frequent occurrence in the divided and volatile state.

 

For decades local groups have fought the roughly 500,000 Indian troops deployed in the region, demanding independence or a merger with Pakistan for the majority Muslim region.

 

Kashmir has been split between India and Pakistan since the end of British rule in 1947. Both claim the territory in its entirety. The fighting has left tens of thousands, mostly civilians, dead.
