RNA - "Deployment of special forces from the Persian Gulf littoral states will be a means of discord and the Syrian militants will distance themselves from the peace talks if they see military support from the Arab and western countries," Hussein Aloul told the Arabic website of Sputnik news agency on Wednesday.
"It is better for Saudi Arabia to cooperate with Russia instead of coordination with the US because Moscow is the first and biggest supporter of the political settlement of the crisis in Syria," he added.
Warning that experience has shown the US support for political solutions is temporary, Aloul said, "After a while, Washington will retreat from its positions and support the militants which will certainly be opposed by the Syrian government in next stages."
In relevant remarks last Wednesday, a prominent dissident figure in Syria underlined the opposition's inability to overthrow the legal government in the country, and said Saudi Arabia is playing almost no role in the Syrian issue.
"At present, Saudi Arabia's influence in Syria almost amounts to zero," Lewi Hussain, the head of Bana al-Dolah dissident group, told Lebanon's al-Mayadeen news channel.
Noting that the Syrian army has defeated the opposition militarily, he said, "Armed dissidents have been and will be defeated in toppling the Syrian government."
Referring to the upcoming peace talks in Geneva on Syria, Hussain said that the Riyadh Delegation is not competent to participate in the negotiations as it is not the representative of the Syrian dissidents.
