RNA - The Defense and Security Committee of the Russian Federation Council (Senate) is to send a delegation to Iran on March 1 for an official visit.

Russian Senate's Defense Committee Chair Viktor Ozerov said that the Russian delegation will meet officials of Iran's ministries of foreign affairs and defense during their six-day stay (March 1-6).

Parliamentary cooperation and coordination for composing anti-terrorism laws are topics to be discussed between the Russian delegation and their Iranian counterparts.

The Russian delegation is also expected to talk with Iranian officials on ways to settle the crisis in Syria peacefully.

Iranian Ambassador to Moscow Mehdi Sanayee announced in December that Iran and Russia have boosted their cooperation in war against terrorism.

"Terrorist groups pose a threat to the entire world and cooperation between Tehran and Moscow is aimed at thwarting the heinous phenomenon in the region," Sanayee told reporters.

The Iranian ambassador voiced his satisfaction with the status quo of Iran-Russia diplomatic relations, and said relations between the two countries can be further expanded in the light of better planning.

Sanayee pointed to the unfavorable security conditions of the region, and said that Tehran and Moscow, as two strategic allies, support the legitimate government in Syria and its ongoing fight against the terrorist groups.
