RNA - "The Zionist regime's recent moves to expand settlements in the occupied territories and violation of the international regulations and laws are among the measures which make the region insecure and it should face comprehensive confrontation," General Dehqan said in a meeting with his Armenian counterpart Vigen Sargsyan in Tehran on Tuesday.

He also underlined that continued fight against terrorism, insecurity and instability in the region are among the Islamic Republic of Iran's principled policies.

General Dehqan underscored that regional problems can only be resolved through talks and peaceful means, and said, "Resorting to force to resolve the regional problems is not acceptable and the Islamic Republic of Iran spares no efforts to resolve the regional problems."

In relevant remarks last Thursday, the Iranian foreign ministry condemned construction of new Israeli settlements in the Palestinian territories, and called for an immediate stop to the building operations.

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi described continued building of Israeli settlements in the Palestinian territories as against the international laws, and deplored it.

He called on the international community to pressure the Zionist regime which has violated the UN approvals and resolutions and prevent continued implementation of the aggressive and expansionist policies of the regime.

In a pointed act of defiance against international pressure, Israel last Tuesday approved a huge new wave of settlement construction in the occupied West Bank.

The announcement made clear that just a few days into the Trump presidency, the Israeli government feels emboldened to shake off the constraints imposed by the Obama administration and more willing to disregard the international condemnation and resolutions.
