He referred to the recent Syria peace talks in Astana which was participated by the Syrian government and the opposition as well as Iran, Russia and Turkey, and the US as an observer state after Tehran stood against Washington's participation in the meeting as a party, and said, "The Americans themselves have said there is nothing more embarrasing for the US than seeing Iran and Russia sit beside each other and decide if the US should be invited to the meeting or not."
The Astana international meeting on peace in Syria kicked off on Monday with the participation of delegations form the Syrian government, opposition groups as well as the three countries of Iran, Russia and Turkey who back the ongoing ceasefire in Syria.
The talks ended in the Kazakh capital city of Astana on Tuesday after Iran, Russia and Turkey adopted a final joint statement and agreed to devise a trilateral mechanism to support the ceasefire in the country to monitor any violation.
The joint statement, which was read by Kazakh Foreign Minister Kairat Abdrakhmanov on Tuesday afternoon (local time), underlined the importance of maintaining the national sovereignty of Syria.
The three countries stressed that there is no military solution to the Syria conflict and it can be only resolved through a political process based on the full implementation of the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2254.
