Rasa - A senior Lebanese analyst said the Zionist regime of Israel “understands only the language of force”, adding that Tel Aviv has never abided by the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions and that will also be the case with a recent resolution against Israeli settlements.

RNA - Speaking to the Tasnim News Agency, Hisham Jaber, the director of the Center for Middle East Studies, pointed to the recent resolution adopted by the UNSC demanding the halt of settlement activity by Israel on occupied Palestinian territories, saying it will never be implemented by the Tel Aviv regime.

“It should be said that the resolution will not lead to an end to the Israeli settlement building at all because up to now, Israel has made a mockery of all of UNSC resolutions…,” the analyst stated.

He went on to say that Tel Aviv, for instance, did not abide by the UNSC resolutions on withdrawal of its forces from southern Lebanon and finally was forced to leave the areas after being defeated by the Resistance Movement forces back in 2000.

Jaber’s comments came after the UNSC voted in favor of the resolution demanding the halt of Israeli settlements.

The resolution was put forward at the 15-member council for a vote on Friday by New Zealand, Malaysia, Venezuela and Senegal, a day after Egypt withdrew it under pressure from Israel and US President-elect Donald Trump.

The UN resolution, while mostly symbolic, could further isolate Israel and hinder its negotiating position in future peace talks.

All Israeli settlements are illegal under international law. Tel Aviv has defied international calls to stop the settlements expansion in the occupied Palestinian territories.
