RNA - Southern Oregonians are condemning a flyer that was recently posted in downtown Medford. In a program, yoe will hear about the organization behind the flyers, and from residents who are pledging to take a stand against hate.
“I was disgusted,” Cliff Robinson says, “it’s not, not what I want people to be like in the community.”
Robinson is not alone, the post was shared more than a hundred times, with many saying they were sad and ashamed, but grateful the person who took the picture also appeared to have taken it down.
“If I saw the poster, I would tear it down, I would destroy it,” Robinson adds.
We spoke to a representative for the organization behind posters like the one posted in downtown.
“They agreed with the message and wanted to help spread it,” the representative told NBC5 News.
He preferred to not share his name with us, and said he didn’t have the ability to use a camera for the interview. But he told us by Skype, his group’s goal is to keep America a “white home”.
“We would prefer to secure and maintain white hegemony in the United States,” they said.
That position, Robinson says, won’t fly in Medford.
“I don’t know who said it but somebody said the best cure for racism is travel, so I think they just need to get out more,” Robinson says, “sit at a mosque, sit in a synagogue you know sit somewhere where people are learning different things than what you’ve been taught because you might learn something yourself.”
We reached out to the mosque in Talent for comment but they declined an interview. However, they told us by phone they can not stop people from using free speech.
