RNA - Lewis was called by the foreign ministry's Department of International Affairs, Environment Protection and Sustainable Development on Sunday.

Lewis was told that the UN representations in Iran should strictly work within the frameworks set by their inherent duties and responsibilities and avoid dealing with other issues not related to their jurisdiction.

Lewis, for his part, provided assurances to the foreign ministry that his activities in future would only focus on development issues and will be in coordination with senior Iranian officials.

The foreign ministry, however, released no further detail about Lewis' explanations over his earlier remarks.

The ministry did not reveal any further information about the topic or content of Lewis's "unconventional" remarks or when or where he made these statements.
