RNA - Police are planning extra patrols in the area of a South Side mosque that reports having received a letter calling Muslims "Children of Satan" and a "vile and filthy people."
The letter has been reported at other mosques around the country, according to the Massachusetts chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations.
President-elect Donald Trump is "going to cleanse America and make it shine again. And, he's going to start with you Muslims,” the letter says, according to a statement Wednesday from the Islamic civil-rights organization.
"This is a great time for patriotic Americans. Long live President Trump and God bless the U.S.A."
The letter advises Muslims to "pack your bags and get out of Dodge," according to the group.
Lindsay Lague, a spokeswoman for the Providence Police Department, said that, although the police had not yet received the letter by around noon, they plan to increase patrols in the area of the Masjid Al-Kareem mosque.
“This act of hate campaign targeting a New England house of worship must be investigated by state and federal law enforcement authorities, and our state’s leaders should speak out against the growing anti-Muslim bigotry that inevitably leads to such incidents,” the Council of American-Islamic Relations executive director, John Robbins, said in the statement.
The group is urging American Muslims and Islamic institutions to take extra security precautions.
