RNA - Israeli police spokesperson, Micky Rosenfeld, claimed in a statement that the Palestinian, approached Israeli guards at Shuafat crossing on Friday evening, and sought to stab an officer.

Israeli forces, in return, fired several live bullets and killed the teenager.

Rosenfeld added that no Israeli security guard was injured during the alleged assault, and that the checkpoint had been closed off.

Witnesses said Palestine Red Crescent Society ambulances rushed to the area following the incident.

Palestinian sources later identified the slain teenager as 16-year-old Mohammad Nabil Salam.

On Tuesday, Israeli military forces fatally shot a Palestinian man at the main checkpoint between the northern part of the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem al-Quds over attempts to carry out an alleged stabbing attack.

Israeli media outlets said the man tried to stab Israeli soldiers manning Qalandia checkpoint, before the forces opened fire and shot him dead.

Palestinian sources said Israeli forces did not allow ambulances and medical staff to reach the site until the man was pronounced dead.

The occupied territories have been the scene of increased tensions ever since Israeli forces imposed restrictions on the entry of Palestinian worshipers into the al-Aqsa Mosque compound in August 2015.

More than 260 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces since the beginning of October 2015.
