RNA - Al-Ameri said on Monday that the Iraqi nation will receive the good news of liberation of the western parts of Mosul from the grip of the terrorists in the not too distant future, Lebanon’s al-Ahed news website reported.

The third phase of a massive military operation to liberate Mosul began on Sunday.

Iraq’s Hashid al-Shaabi troops (the voluntary forces, also known as the Popular Mobilization Units) managed to secure safe exit routes out of western Mosul for civilians on the first day of the third phase, he further said.

Ahmad al-Assadi, the spokesman for the PMU, said Monday the operation in west of Mosul aims to cut supplies between the northern city and Raqqah in Syria.

The Iraqi army, the voluntary forces and Kurdish fighters launched the massive operation to retake Mosul on October 17.

They have liberated more than 100 towns and villages since they began the decisive battle.

Earlier, Iraqi voluntary forces liberated the al-Taybah and al-Farsiyah hills, southwest of Mosul.

The recapture of Mosul would mark the Takfiri militants’ effective defeat in the Iraqi half of the territory they seized in 2014.
