RNA - Around 23 Palestinians were rounded up overnight after the Israeli forces raided the Nur Sham refugee camp east of Tulkarm. The Israeli military accused the detainees of being involved in acts of violence.

The new detentions came after Israeli troops abducted some 28 individuals, including a woman, on Tuesday, the Palestinian Prisoners' Society (PPS) said.

In Bethlehem, local sources said Israeli forces shot and injured a Palestinian youth by live ammunition before arresting him in the Dahshia refugee camp, where at least four others were detained.

Israeli forces frequently raid Palestinian houses in the West Bank, detaining residents and transferring them to prisons, where they are kept indefinitely without charges.

The United Nations says the Israeli army carried out 178 detention raids across the occupied territory from October 4 to 17.

According to the prisoners’ rights group Addameer, there are currently 7,000 Palestinians held at Israeli jails and detention centers, including seven lawmakers.

Under the so-called administrative detention, Israel jails Palestinians without trial or charge for periods of up to six months, which can be renewed an infinite number of times.

Some Palestinian prisoners have been held in administrative detention for up to eleven years.

The detainees have continuously resorted to open-ended hunger strikes in an attempt to voice outrage at their imprisonment without trial or charge as well as their prison conditions.

Reports say Palestinians are usually subjected to different types of torture by Israeli officials during detention and interrogation.

The developments come at a time of heightened tensions between Israeli forces and Palestinian protesters.

In recent months, Israeli forces have shot dead a large number of Palestinians after accusing them of carrying out attacks across the occupied territories.

The occupied territories have been the scene of heightened tensions since August 2015, when Tel Aviv imposed restrictions on the entry of Palestinian worshipers into the al-Aqsa Mosque compound in East Jerusalem al-Quds.

Almost 250 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces in what is regarded as the third Palestinian Intifada since October 2015.
