Syria Truce Was a Ruse:
Rasa - The seven days of the nationwide ceasefire in Syria ran their course on Monday, September 19, with the Syrian government regretting that militants did not adhere to any of the provisions stated in the deal.

RNA - The Russia-US brokered cessation of hostilities came into force on September 12. The problem is, terrorist groups took advantage of the ceasefire in order to regroup and mobilize additional forces. They then launched attacks on residential areas and military sites in several regions, including the war-ravaged city of Aleppo. According to Russian General Staff Lt. Gen. Sergei Rudskoy, the terrorist groups violated the ceasefire over 300 times since it took effect, killing at least 153 Syrian military men and 63 civilians.

The cessation of hostilities also suffered a huge setback on Saturday, September 17, after US-led coalition airstrikes hit Syrian Army forces. Some 90 soldiers were killed and over 100 wounded in the attack. While Washington called the incident a mistake, President Bashar Assad, marked by Washington for removal, spoke of “flagrant aggression.”

During the ceasefire, however, only Syrian Army actually observed the moratorium on combat operations. On the contrary, the Saturday airstrikes by the US, which had UK backing, proved beyond any doubt that the United State is not interested in peace and that it still continues to support ISIL and other terrorist groups in the five-year war, in which the UN estimates some 450,000 Syrians have been killed.

So it is what it is: The US-Russian agreement on 10 September – on a ceasefire, aid convoys to besieged cities, and a joint campaign against Nusra Front and ISIL – has failed. This is not surprising. It’s the way things are supposed to work for the War Party and its rogues gallery.

In the world of Official Washington, the rogue superpower has the right to intervene anywhere, anytime, for whatever reason it chooses – pretty much violating every international law and treaty of the post-World War II era. Despite its proven track record of deceit, the US can also negotiate a limited ceasefire agreement and violate it for whatever reason it chooses – its impunity secure.

That was what the rogue superpower was after when it decided to deceive Russia into signing the ruse that was the Syria truce. The whole idea was to resupply and regroup its desperate proxy forces in order to continue the present horrors in Syria – the foreign-funded-and-armed rebellion that includes radical jihadists, including “moderate” terrorist groups linked to Al-Qaeda and other forces operating under the banner of ISIL.

More often than not, UN officials also decided to bend to the will of the rogue superpower, failing to challenge any of the US-led, US-backed violations during the ceasefire deal, including something as blatantly illegal as the Saturday US-led airstrike that killed so many Syrian soldiers in Deir Azzur. After all, for an aspiring UN bureaucrat, it is clear which side his career bread is buttered.

That’s not to say that Damascus and Moscow were perfect all this time. They might be far from it. But at least they were, and still are, true to themselves, their people, and the world community when it comes to brokering ceasefire, channeling humanitarian assistance, and fighting the Real War on Terror – in alliance with Iran and Hezbollah.

The fact that the people of Syria, like Russia’s, rallied around their elected government and leader when they saw this truce was a ruse, is another reality that the rogue humanitarians and peacemakers in Washington and Brussels cannot tolerate.
