RNA - “Whenever the Syrian state achieves tangible progress either on the ground or in national reconciliations, the states that are hostile to Syria increase their support for terrorist organizations, and the most recent example of this is the flagrant US aggression on a Syrian Arab Army position in Deir ez-Zor for the benefit of Daesh (ISIL or ISIS)” Assad was quoted by SANA as saying on Monday.
He made the remarks in a meeting with Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Jaberi Ansari in Damascus.
Assad was referring to US airstrikes on Syrian army forces on Saturday that killed more than 90 troops.
The sides that are hostile to Syria are depleting all their energies and resources to maintain the terrorist war on Syria, he added.
Assad further underlined the importance of the support provided by Iran, Russia, and other friendly countries in bolstering the steadfastness of the Syrian people in the face of the terrorists.
For his part, Jaberi Ansari highlighted the robust ties between Tehran and Damascus, which are based not just on common interests but also on common views and realization of threats such as terrorism and extremism.
He also reiterated Iran’s resolve to continue supporting Syria in its war on terrorism.
Jaberi Ansari arrived in Damascus early on Monday. During his two-day visit, the Iranian deputy minister is also scheduled to sit down with Syria’s prime minister and foreign minister to discuss ways for countering terrorism and put an end to the ongoing crisis in the Arab country.
Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with various terrorist groups, including Daesh, currently controlling parts of it.
Meanwhile, Russia’s aerial support for the Syrian forces since September 2015 has given fresh impetus to the fight against the foreign-backed terrorists.
Iran has also remained a close ally of Syria and supports its legitimate government in the face of terrorists.
