RNA – On Saturday, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei, agreed to a request by Iran’s Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli-Larijani to pardon or reduce the sentences of 582 eligible inmates convicted by public courts and courts of revolution, the Judicial Organization of Armed Forces and the State Discretionary Punishment Organization.
In an earlier letter to the Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Larijani had asked for clemency for the eligible convicts on the occasion of Eid al-Adha (the Feast of Sacrifice) and Eid al-Ghadir.
The tenth day of the lunar Islamic month of Dhul-Hijjah marks Eid al-Adha, which is celebrated at the end of the annual Hajj pilgrimage.
The Eid al-Ghadir, which marks the occasion of the appointment by Islam’s Prophet uohammad of Imam Ali as his successor, is also celebrated on the 18th day of Dhul-Hijjah.
