RNA - “The US pays no heed to the conditions of the Syrian people,” Hossein Amir Abdollahian said on Saturday, adding that Washington’s policies in pursuit of election and political objectives lead to losses of more lives and properties in Syria and the region.
In spite of the full compliance of the Syrian government to the recent nationwide truce agreement, the US has failed to implement its obligations under the deal, he deplored.
The Iranian official further pointed to Washington’s continued support for al-Nusra Front in Syria, saying that the US has never targeted the positions of the terrorist group, which has been blacklisted by the United Nations.
He went on to say that the US has changed the group’s name to save “its terrorist friends”.
A nationwide ceasefire in Syria brokered by the US and Russia began at sundown on September 12, coinciding with the Muslim Eid al-Adha holiday.
The truce does not apply to the terrorist groups of Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) and Jabhat Fateh al-Sham, the group formerly known as al-Nusra Front that changed its name in July.
Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with various terrorist groups, including Daesh, currently controlling parts of it.
According to a report by the Syrian Center for Policy Research, the conflict has claimed the lives of over 470,000 people, injured 1.9 million others, and displaced nearly half of the country’s pre-war population of about 23 million within or beyond its borders.
