RNA - During the meeting in the Lebanese capital on Saturday, Fathali and Kaag exchanged views about political issues in the Middle East, particularly the Syrian crisis.

Referring to irreparable human and material losses caused by the presence of terrorist groups in the region, Fathali underlined the need for cooperation among all countries to deal with this threat and stop support for terror groups.

Kaag, for her part, provided the Iranian diplomat with a detailed analysis of the UN’s evaluation of the regional developments and their impacts on Lebanon, calling on the international community to give more support to Lebanon as it is accommodating Syrian refugees fleeing violence in their country.

Syria has been gripped with civil war since March 2011. According to the United Nations, more than 220,000 people have been killed and one million wounded during the conflict.
