RNA – For the fifth consecutive week, Bahraini authorities have banned the Imam of Friday prayer from entering Diraz to perform the weekly congregational prayers, which forced worshipers perform their prayers separately.

Also on Friday (August 19, 2016), the authorities also prevented a large number of citizens from entering Diraz to take part in the Friday prayers.

After the prayers, citizens held a rally outside Imam al-Sadiq Mosque demanding the Al Khalifah regime stop its persecution of Bahrain’s Shi’a majority and allow them to perform their religious rituals.

United Nations experts called on the government of Bahrain to end its persecution of Shi’as and said in a statement that “Shi’as are clearly being targeted on the basis of their religion.”
