Head of the Union of Iraqi Sunni Scholars:
Rasa – Shaykh Khalid al-Mulla said: “the aim of forming such a council at the current time disrupts the timing of the operation to liberate Mosul and leads to inconclusive results in regard to the efforts to unite the Iraqi people.”

RNA – Shaykh Khalid al-Mulla, the head of the Union of Iraqi Sunni Scholars, criticized the decision made by the Iraqi coalition forces, saying: “This is a sectarian council which will be supported and led from abroad.”

On Tuesday, Ahmad al-Salmani, the deputy-chief of the Iraqi coalition forces in Iraq, said that in a recent meeting, the coalition decided to form a council which will command and manage six western Iraqi governorates through the participation of the representatives of these provinces in a council.

Shaykh al-Mulla added that today, Iraq is in need of unity and solidarity among its people and territory and any project or plan which leads to the disintegration of Iraq and its people is a sectarian plan and in line with the goals of the enemies.

“Such councils seek to create sectarian sedition in society and divide the territory and people of Iraq. All such actions and decisions are driven by the enemies who do not want any good for Iraq,” the Sunni cleric explained.

The head of the Union of Iraqi Sunni Scholars continued: “The aim of forming such a council at the current time disrupts the timing of the operation to liberate Mosul and leads to inconclusive results in regard to the efforts to unite the Iraqi people.”
