RNA – In celebration of Eid al-Ma’bath, which marks the anniversary of the divine appointment of Prophet Muhammad to prophethood, scholars, personalities, professors, students and staff of the Islamic Seminary of Qom attended ceremonies at the offices of several revered sources of emulation.
On the 27th of Rajab in the 40th Year of the Elephant, the Prophet Muhammad, was ordered by God to declare his prophethood to the world. At that time, he was forty years old. On that day he was in the cave of Hira and the Angel Gabriel came to him conveying to him the following message of God, which were the first verses to be revealed: “Read in the name of thy Lord Who created, Created man from a clot (of congealed blood): Read and thy Lord is most Bountiful, He Who taught with the pen, taught man that which he knew not.” (The Holy Quran, 96:1-5).
The flow of the divine message which continued for the next 23 years had begun, and the Holy Prophet had arisen to proclaim the Unity of God and the Unity of Mankind, to demolish the edifice of superstition, ignorance, and disbelief, to set up a noble conception of life, and to lead mankind to the light of faith and celestial bliss.
Celebrations marking this auspicious occasion were held at the offices of Ayatollahs Hoseyn Vahid-Khorasani, Lotfollah Safi-Golpaygani, Naser Makarem-Shirazi, Sayyed Musa Shobeyri-Zanjani, Hoseyn Nouri-Hamadani, Ja’far Sobhani, Abdollah Javadi-Amoli, Sayyed Abdolkarim Mousavi-Ardabili, Sayyed Mohammad-Ali Alavi-Gorgani and several other scholars in Qom.
A ceremony was also held at the office of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei, in Qom which was attended by a large number of scholars and laypeople.
On this auspicious and happy day, a number of seminary students in Qom were endowed with the holy clothes and turban of the Shi’a clergy by several sources of emulation.
A speaker at one of these events explained the goals and philosophy of the divine appointment Prophet Muhammad to his mission and mentioned the problems that are afflicting the Islamic world in the current era, saying that they are due to deviation from the path taught by the Prophet Muhammad and added that if the Muslims would abide by the guardianship of the Ahlul-Bayt, we would not be witnessing all the current deviation and problems facing the Islamic world.
He said that an important lesson learned from the Prophet Muhammad’s mission is confronting ignorance and the salvation of mankind from deviation and stressed that contemporary ignorance should be combated in a proper manner.
It is worth mentioning that ceremonies marking the Prophet Muhammad’s first revelation were also held at the Holy Shrine of Lady Fatimah al-Ma’sumah, Jamkaran Mosque, other holy sites, mosques and other religious places throughout Qom and Iran.
In celebration, Iranians also set up “salawati” stations where they distribute sweets and sherbet to those passing by.
