RNA - Orlando International Airport said it is opening a $250,000 Muslim prayer room on Sept. 1 to accommodate passengers who fly Emirates airlines, which will start arriving at the airport on the same day.
Muslims traveling at the airport were previously forced to pray in a nondenominational chapel, in public or in rest rooms, The Orlando Sentinel reported.
The "Reflection Room" will be located in Terminal B and will feature a clean zone and directional signs for north, south, east and west. A chapel already exists in the airport's main terminal.
"Orlando is truly becoming a global community, and we want to be able to accommodate and provide high-quality amenities for all our passengers," Phil Brown, the airport director, told the paper.
Muhammad Musri, the president of the Islamic Society of Central Florida said that the room will also be open to people belonging to any religion.
