Rasa - The Islamic concept differs from the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) that is well known among people in Western society.
UN declaration of Human Rights

RNA - "UDHR is secular in nature and is not in line with what the Creator wants,"Daily Express quoted Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister's Department, Datuk Arifin Arif as saying.

They came up with the UDHR document in 1948 and it is in line with the ideology of humanism that puts humans or people as the highest in the hierarchy of all living things and of all things.

"UDHR is not an absolute document that should be forced on people."

"Therefore, as Muslims we should explain this concept through an Islamic perspective or Islamic tradition. We should not be apologetic in doing so.

"In Islam, to fight for one's right must be accompanied by responsibilities. Islam focuses on balancing between one's rights and one's responsibilities.

"For example, when you have the right to voice your opinion, this means lies, deception and negative rumours should not accompany it. That's the responsibility that you must shoulder," added Arifin.

A book entitled "Hak Asasi Kemanusiaan Menurut Tradisi Islam" was also launched during the event which was organised by a collaboration of Islamic non-government organisations in Sabah called Concern and Allied Co-ordinating Committee of Islamic NGOs (ACCIN).

Meanwhile, ACCIN council member Jamaludin Shamsudin said according to a comprehensive research conducted by Professor Robert Pipe, a terrorism specialist from Chicago University, suicide attempts and terrorism is a group's effort to gain freedom from colonialism and not tied to the Islamic religion or the Islamic fundamentalists or any religion or belief whatsoever.

Among those present were Dato Prof Ariffin Suhaimi, Tun Abdul Hamid Mohamad, Dr Aliakbar Gulasan and Mohd Zikri Zainuddin.
