Rasa News Agency – The secretariat of the Berlin International Film Festival announced that the documentary of Ashura which was directed by a Turkish origin director was screened at the Sixty-third international film festival.
The website of the festival introduced the documentary of Ashura and said: “The battle of Karbala which occurred in tenth of Muharram of Sixty-one AH in Iraq forms a big part of Shia’s identity and every year on the Day of Ashura commemoration for this battle take place.”
The website of the Berlin International Film Festival announced that the event is organized by Turkish Shia’s which is the minority in that country. In Turkey, there are almost one million Shia people who are living in the city of Agadir. The city of Istanbul has a suburb by the name of Zainabiyya and every year in that neighborhood a magnificent ceremony is held for the occasion of Ashura.
The "Ashura" is a documentary about the preparation of Zainabiyy in Istanbul for Ashura and its directed by Oregon Kokeny. The twenty-two-minute film was screened at the Short Film Festival. The director of this movie was born in Istanbul and continued his studies in London and now he is studying his PHD at the Berlin University.
