RNA - In a message on Monday, Khaled Qaddoumi expressed condolences to Iran’s leadership, government and nation over the passing of Ayatollah Rafsanjani.
Praising the deceased as a longtime companion of late founder of the Islamic Republic Imam Khomeini, Qaddoumi said the Islamic world, Iran and Palestine have lost a “religious intellectual, great politician and freedom-seeking figure.”
“Under such tumultuous and difficult circumstances, the Islamic and the Arab world would have needed such a great sage,” the Palestinian envoy added.
Qaddoumi further commended Ayatollah Rafsanjani for the record of his pro-Palestinian endeavors, saying the iconic cleric was “one of the first major figures to join the Arab and Palestinian fighters” in the anti-Israeli moves.
Ayatollah Rafsanjani passed away at the age of 82 on Sunday. He was an influential figure in a campaign led by Imam Khomeini that resulted in the victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1979. The deceased became president for two terms and was the chairman of the Expediency Council for some 20 years.
