US Planning a Return:
Rasa - US Marines Colonel Adam L. Chalkley, commanding officer of Special Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force-Crisis Response-Africa, says conditions are improving on the ground in Libya for the return of an American diplomatic post, six years after the US envoy was killed there in an attack on the Benghazi consulate.
Smoke rises during heavy clashes between rival factions in Tripoli, Libya, August 28,

RNA - Of course, this is never about “a reintroduction of a diplomatic mission in the war-torn country”. Because of the bogus US-led War on Terror, half of Libya is in ruins – just like the rest of the region. The War Party in Washington only wants to make sure the rest of the country also falls deeper into chaos and division. Simply put, under this policy, Libyans are disposable, foreign-backed terrorism has forced much of Libya towards utter chaos, Yemen is near-collapse levels, and Afghanistan, Syria and Yemen are in a state of helplessness.

Strange enough, defenceless civilians in these failed states still find themselves being blamed for their misfortunes and terrorism - the vanguard in the Saudi-American-Israeli proxy war of attrition against the Muslim world. The evidence keeps accumulating:

In a disgraceful display of high-level disregard for International Law, the new warmongers in Washington are attempting to shift the blame on Libyan people. It's not that hard to understand why, as numerous studies and reports have documented the terrible consequences of the US-backed invasion that made many Libyans much less optimistic about the future. The growing level of violence and chaos – as well as a return of US military - means their children will likely see less opportunities for their own futures as well.

Now, Colonel Chalkley says it may be getting worse. He is calling for the US military to engage in yet another ground war and occupation in Libya. He, however, stops short of actually apologizing for Washington’s role in turning Libya into a divided country, that admittedly paved the way for the emergence of ISIL and Al-Qaeda throughout the region.

It’s not that hard to see the sheer folly in all this flatulent exercise in hypocrisy. There is no plainer lesson from the events of recent years than the recklessness of US-led wars on Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria and Yemen all over again. Any return of US military - under the guise of establishing a new diplomatic mission - will ultimately prove more harmful for Libyan-regional security and peace than anything else. Simply put, the US is not going back there to promote democracy. Any doubters should ask Syria.

It is useful to remember that the invasion of Libya was first designed for democratization and support for democratic forces. But then the democratic forces joined the terrorist-militants ranks and decided to attack everything and everyone on the ground, suspiciously, even attack the US consulate in Benghazi and kill the US envoy.

What is totally new and important in all this is that the people of Libya don’t want a return of US military. They want an end to the fighting and chaos. And if the US wants to re-establish its diplomatic mission there, that has to be announced by the official class in Washington and not by the commanding officer of Special Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force-Crisis Response-Africa!

This should really lead Libyans to pause and reflect. It is in the interest of Washington to keep Libya as a failed and divided state and push it into the hands of terror proxy forces and militants. This way the War Party can justify its permanent occupation and military bases. Surely, this permanent occupation policy wouldn’t include an engagement to end the division in Libya, let alone national reconciliation.

According to Fars News Agency, it should be recognized by now that this kind of militarized arrangement is illegal under International Law. It would have no international support at the United Nations for a united front against Libya division, nor would it pave the way for general elections and an all-inclusive government in Tripoli, or satisfy the frustrated egos in Washington.

Here, far from developing a strategy to extricate the division and chaos from Libya, the Pentagon regime has already stated that it cannot open a new US consulate in Benghazi without also sending hundreds of troops. It gives every indication that they will resume a combat role as well, despite their so-called diplomatic mission. Simply put, it will amount to illegal intervention and avoidance of creative peace-making.

This truth becomes obvious upon an investigation into how Washington’s actual foreign policy is being handled elsewhere in the region. The same strategy has been practiced in Iraq, Syria, Yemen and Afghanistan. The terrible results are always the same:

A broader sectarian conflict, division, terrorism and chaos; a huge drop in living standards and security if any left; no reconstruction efforts or reconciliation; a huge public resentment towards US occupying forces and illegal military bases; a windfall for American weapons manufacturers and military contractors; and a new lease of life for Washington’s terror proxy forces in Libya. The people of Libya should consider themselves warned.
