Rasa News Agency reports - Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Alavi-Gorgani met with a group of students from the Imam Husayn (A) Guard Training Centre. He said that the salvation of humanity depends on accepting wilayah (guardianship). “That which was sent down to us from God to the Prophet Muhammad (S) is a criterion of our actions.”

“Although most Muslims are not Shi’ah, but it does not mean that Shi’ism is not legitimate,” Ayatollah Alavi-Gorgani said in regards to the issue that a persons actions are the criteria for his fate alone.

“Those who do God’s commandments are not equal to those who are disobedient,” he said after quoting the Holy Quran.

Ayatollah Alavi-Gorgani explained that according to the Holy Quran and prophetic traditions, humans are divided into two groups: those who follow the divine commandments and the directions of Prophet Muhammad (S) and those who do not follow them. “Those who follow the divine commandments will go to heaven and those who do not, will go to hell,” he noted.

He explained that because people are unaware of each other’s intentions, man’s actions towards others should be judged in context to ensure someone is not judged unfairly before reaching certainty.

“God is aware of all our actions and He knows the secrets of His servants and His judgments about people are based on truth because this complete knowledge [of the context in which an action was accomplished],” Ayatollah Alavi-Gorgani explained.

Based on the Holy Quran, obedience to the commands of God, the Prophet Muhammad (S), and Imam al-Mahdi (AJ) is obligatory according to the Ja’fari school of thought.

He explained that being related to the Prophet Muhammad (S) or the Imams (A) does not guarantee entrance to heaven. Ayatollah Alavi-Gorgani related a tradition which states that the brother of the eighth Imam, Ali ibn Musa ar-Ridha (A), thought he was guaranteed entrance to heaven because of his family ties but he was working against Islam. Only those who obey the divine commands are guaranteed entrance to heaven.
