Iranian President Hassan Rouhani forwarded a message of condolences to his Indonesian counterpart, offering sympathy to the people and government of the country over the tragic loss of hundreds of lives in Sunda Strait tsunami. Iran and Indonesia, as two major Muslim countries, are enjoying very close ties, and, in a related front, Jakarta’s Ambassador to Tehran Octaviano Alimuddin said last week that Indonesia is determined to bolster and broaden its all-out relations with Iran, especially in the fields of politics and economy.
A volcano eruption triggered a tsunami which hit Indonesia’s Sunda Strait on Saturday night, claiming the lives of more than 280 and injuring more than 1,000 people.
