RNA – In an interview with the parliamentary correspondent of Rasa News Agency, Hujjat al-Islam Sayyed Naser Mousavi-Largani, a member of the Economic Committee of the Islamic Consultative Assembly [parliament] argued that remaining in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) is not in the best interests of Iran, saying, “By remaining in the JPCOA, we want to rely on the countries in Europe who stood against us with all their might during the eight-year-long ‘Sacred Defence’ [Iran-Iraq War].”

He emphasizing that over the past four years that Iran has been a signatory of the JCPOA, we have seen that Europe has not done anything, added, “Europe did not do anything when the United States was a signatory of the JCPOA, but now that the United States has left, what do they want to do?”

Hujjat al-Islam Mousavi-Largani noted, “When the British prime minister [Theresa May] says that the JCPOA is a shackle on Iran’s hands in the nuclear debate or that the French president [Emmanuel Macron] says that Iran should abandon its missile issues, it is clear that we cannot trust these countries. While we have repeatedly stated that our defence issues cannot be negotiated, such statements mean they do not want to help us.”

The representative of the people of Falavarjan in the Islamic Consultative Assembly pointed out that perhaps Europe wants to buy time from American sanctions and threats and then say that they cannot continue without the United States because there are under economic pressure and added, “Our officials were quick to sign the JCPOA and the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution [Ayatollah Khamenei] repeatedly said that this was an act of disloyalty and unfaithfulness.”

He said that the officials swore that the agreement was in the interest of Iran but have witnessed from the first day that it only harmed Iran and stressed, “We have fulfilled all our obligations to the JCPOA but the other party hasn’t even complied with one commitment.”

Hujjat al-Islam Mousavi-Largani stated, “Now, in my opinion, it is the best way to withdraw from the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) and we have to start enriching twenty percent uranium immediately because these countries are looking for lost opportunities.”

Speaking in the Diplomatic Reception Room at the White House in Washington, DC, on May 8th, the President of the United States, Donald Trump, announced his decision to withdraw the United States from the nuclear deal between Iran and the P5+1 group of countries and to re-impose sanctions against the Islamic Republic.
