RNA – In an exclusive interview with Reza News Agency, Ayatollah Mahmoud Abdollahi, referred to the treachery of the United States and its withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JPCOA) and said, “The United States’ withdrawal from the JCPOA is not a new issue and this country has abandoned its commitments from the very first days and although several European countries were apparently associated with this agreement, they also did not fulfill their commitments under the influence of their relations with the United States.”

The representative of the people of Esfahan in the Assembly of Experts added that according to the nuclear deal, all of the sanctions imposed on Iran were supposed to be lifted on the first day but not only sanctions were the sanctions not lifted, they were intensified and the European partners in the JPCPA and the United States also did not fulfill any of their commitments to Iran.

Ayatollah Abdollahi stated, “From the beginning [of the negotiations over Iran’s peaceful nuclear program], the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution [Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei] said that he was not optimistic about the negotiations but said, ‘if you want to attempt this, there is no problem.’ The withdrawal of the United States from the JCPOA demonstrates the wisdom of the Supreme Leader’s position.”

The member of the Society of Seminary Teachers of Qom stressed that acting from a position of authority is essential and said, “If we adhere to the indicators of the Islamic Revolution, the most important of which are authority and independence, certainly the [partners’] failure to fulfill their commitments will not lead to any harm in the determination of our society.”

He emphasized, “We must act against the enemies from a position of authority and sovereignty and the accompaniment of the people, their vigilance and their recognition of the enemies also confirms this.”

Ayatollah Abdollahi said that the Supreme Leader had said that if they tear up the JPCOA, we would burn it and stressed, “This interpretation reflects the authority of the system.”

In conclusion, he said, “The people’s expectation of the officials is that they adhere to their previously stated positions that they will no longer negotiate and they must know that as much as we stand upon the power and independence, it is in our favour and the enemies will sustain a loss.”

The JCPOA was signed between Iran and P5+1 group of countries (the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council – China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom, the United States plus Germany) and the European Union in 2015.

As part of its commitments, Iran put limits on its nuclear program in exchange for the removal of nuclear-related sanctions imposed against Tehran.

On May 8, the President of the United States, Donald Trump, announced his decision to withdraw the United States from the JCPOA and re-impose sanctions against the Islamic Republic.
