RNA – During his Friday prayer sermon delivered to a large crowd of believers and mourners at the Holy Shrine of Imam al-Husayn in the Iraqi city of Karbala, Hujjat al-Islam Sayyid Ahmad al-Safi argued that the Divine Lawgiver called for strengthening of family relations and said, “God Almighty has called for the families to put seriously effort into educating and nurturing their children.”

The representative of Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Ali al-Sistani also strongly criticized the increase of divorce in society and added, “Divorce in Iraq has become a phenomenon and its responsibility lies with society.”

Hujjat al-Islam al-Safi added, “The discussion of divorce is not a political or economic issue but rather it is a completely social issue and we must pay special attention to it because it has a lot of flaws and problems.”

The custodian of the Holy Shrine of Imam al-Husayn described the family as the foundation of society and noted, “Divorce causes the complete collapse of the family so everyone must act on their responsibilities in this regard.”

His Eminence said that adherence to the culture of Western countries, television series or some books has shaken the foundations of families.

He considered the relationship of the family as sacred and said, “Unfortunately, husbands and wives have become engrossed in their work have forgotten about presence and love among each other.”

Hujjat al-Islam Safi called for the improvement of family relations and emphasized that efforts must be made in the field of family culture and the improvement of relations among family members.
