RNA – In his Friday prayer sermon to a large and fervent crowd of believers in Qom’s Quds Prayer Hall, Ayatollah Seyyed Hashem Hoseyni-Bushehri emphasized the revival of the commandment of “enjoining the good and forbidding the wrong” in society and the understanding of its terms and conditions and said, “Everything in society that leads to the domination of enemies is wrong and that the causes the excellence and power of the Islamic ummah is something good in Islam.”

The member of the Supreme Council of the Seminary added, “The greatest wrong is the domination of the infidels over the believers. Sometimes the enemies enter through killing. plundering of resources and occupation and sometimes through undermining, destruction and poisoning the minds of the Islamic ummah. Sometimes they impose the greatest blow against the Islamic ummah in the clothes of an ally, as they cannot do so in the clothes of an enemy.”

In his second sermon, he thanked the people of Qom for their participation in various religious, political and social activities, saying, “We appreciate the presence of people during the ‘rain prayer’ today, the magnificent marches of the 9th and 13th of Dey [30 December 2017 and 3 January 2018] and also in the passionate meeting with the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution. This courage and revolutionary fervour must remain among the people of Qom.”

Referring to the anniversary of the issuance of the historic tobacco verdict by Grand Ayatollah Mohammad-Hasan Mirza Shirazi, Ayatollah Hoseyni-Bushehri said, “The authority of the sources of emulation and the clergy can have such an effect and create a great movement in society. If the people stand alongside the clergy and sources of emulation, the sources of emulation can play a key role at any time.”

In December 1891, Ayatollah Mirza Shirazi issued a verdict against tobacco usage in opposition to a 1890 tobacco concession granted by Nasiruddin Shah of Persia to the United Kingdom.

The member of the Society of Seminary Teachers of Qom offered his condolences on the tragic deaths of the crew members of the Iranian oil tanker, Sanchi, which sank after burning for more than a week following a collision in the East China Sea on 6 January, saying, “These crew members died while fulfilling their duties and suffered hardship thousands of kilometres away from home. We hope that grounds will be prepared where the bereaved families can find consolation.”

Referring to the recent riots in Iran, Ayatollah Hoseyni-Bushehri said, “One must look at the events that took place from two perspectives – one discussion is related to the demands of the people, which must not be forgotten because their demands are truthful. The authorities must do their utmost to take into account the demands of the people and eliminate the means for the enemies to engage in abuse.”

The member of the board of directors of the Assembly of Experts said that the other discussion is related to those who are under the influence of the enemies and who have taken improper actions in regard to the damaging activities on the internet. These people must review their consciences – why have they made such a mistake and listened to the Saudis, the hypocrites, and the Zionists? You live in this country so why did you insult the Quran and Islam and the country?”

He added, “Iran needs unity and we have to stand against the arrogant powers. The people face problems and have demands and we must solve them but we must not become the playthings of the enemies. The enemies have targeted national and religious sentiments, faith, motives and the tools of the country’s authority.”

Ayatollah Hoseyni-Bushehri said that, “Fortunately, the enemies were defeated and will be defeated again in the future and noted, “In his meeting with the people of Qom [on 9 January], the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution [Ayatollah Khamenei] said: ‘I thank the people one thousand times.’ According to the Leader, the people are aware of their time and have the necessary courageousness, awareness and insight and this capacity must be preserved. The people are loyal to the Islamic establishment, the Revolution and the Leader and they will be present at any stage to counter the enemies.”
