RNA – Speaking in the Iraqi capital of Baghdad, Shaykh Khalid al-Mulla, the chairman of the Sunni Scholars Council of Iraq said, “Sunni Iraqi citizens need to have a national conference to exchange discussions on new political issues in Iraq according to the country’s interests. The only purpose of holding conferences in the name of the Sunnis in Baghdad and Erbil is due to the upcoming parliamentary election.”
The Iraqi Sunni cleric added that criticism and protest of the conference in Baghdad was due to the presence of traitors and those under prosecution and said, “The officials of the Erbil Governorate and other Iraqi provinces have no right to insert such people into Sunni conferences.”
Shaykh al-Mulla said that the suspects should be brought to the Iraqi judiciary as soon as possible in order to address their crimes and said, “The presence of these suspects at the Sunnis meetings and conferences is about ignoring the rights of innocent Iraqi martyrs.”
Pointing to the liberation of Nineveh Governorate and the city of Mosul from the clutches of the Daesh terrorists, the chairman of the Sunni Scholars Council of Iraq said, “All of the people of Iraq, from the south to the north, share in the martyrs’ dedication to attain victory over Daesh in the city of Mosul.”
He continued, “Daesh entered Iraqi territory with a green light and was accompanied by some of the politicians who participated in the Sunni conference in Erbil Governorate.”
Shaykh al-Mulla noted that all participants in the Baghdad conference must coordinate with the national coalition and with the Kurdistan Region in order to solve the problems of Iraq during the post-Daesh period and they must respect the people of the country by refusing to return the traitors to Iraq.
A number of Iraqi Sunni leaders gathered in the capital Baghdad on Friday, June 14 and formed a new alliance, with some political leaders sending their blessings from exile.
The conference was one of a series of meetings that pave the way for an inclusive alliance that will work to unite the Sunni political forces for post-Daesh period.
Some Sunni leaders, including members of the banned Ba’th Party, who could not attend the meeting because they are wanted by Iraqi courts on charges of terrorism endorsed the alliance at a press conference in the Kurdish capital of Erbil.
