RNA – In his Friday prayer sermon delivered to a large and fervent crowd of believers in the Iraqi city of Najaf’s al-Fatimiyah al-Kubra Husayniyah, Hujjat al-Islam Sayyid Sadruddin al-Qubanchi referring to the ongoing conflict between the Kurdistan Region and Iraq over the autonomous region’s independence from Iraq and said, “Kurdish independence is a fantasy action and it is impossible. This plan is only for local consumption and only results in domestic problems.”

The Iraqi scholar added that at a time when Iraq is on the verge of complete victory over the Takfiri Daesh terrorist group, it is not a good time to raise the issue of the independence of Kurdistan.

Hujjat al-Islam al-Qubanchi appealed to officials in the Kurdistan Regional Government to change their opinion regarding independence and said, “They should know very well that Iraq is for all ethnic groups and tribes.”

In another part of his Friday Prayers sermon, His Eminence commemorated National Reporter’s Day and demanded freedom of the press, the fight against terrorism, unity and the independence of Iraq.

Hujjat al-Islam al-Qubanchi referred to as one an article in a Saudi newspaper which stated that it is impermissible to excommunicate Twelver and Ismaili Shi’ahs and said the position taken by this newspaper is a result of Saudi Arabia’s ongoing conflict with Qatar.
