RNA - "In the current conditions, the region is entangled in turmoil and terrorist crises and most countries are facing this crisis. Unfortunately, certain countries support the terrorist groups and this has prevented the easy annihilation of terrorist streams," Larijani said in a meeting with Singapore's Senior Minister of State for Defense and Foreign Affairs Maliki Osman in Tehran on Wednesday.

Noting that the terrorism crisis has turned into an international issue now, he said that terrorism has several cultural, political, security and social root causes which should be studied.

In relevant remarks in December, Larijani took the big world powers and certain regional states responsible for the spread of terrorism and insecurity in the region.

"The strategic mistake of the big and regional powers in using terrorism for tactical objectives is the root cause of insecurity in the region," Larijani said in Tehran, addressing the International Conference on Regional Security Order in West Asia.

Noting that this strategy has been pursued by the big and regional powers since the occupation of Afghanistan by the former Soviet Union, he said that they continued this policy until today in Iraq, Libya, Syria and Yemen and "practically, this strategy has led to the spread of terrorism".

Also in September, Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani blasted the western countries for continuing their supports for the terrorist groups in the region.

"The measures taken by the West to counter the true Islamic teachings are to blame for the spread of terrorism throughout the world," Shamkhani said.

He went on to say that the West’s historic mistakes, namely the use of terrorism as a means and support for deviant ideologies to counter the genuine and revolutionary Islamic ideology as well as double standard policies in the fight against terrorism, have led to the perilous status quo.
