RNA – In an interview with the media, Dr. Abdul-Wahhab Furati stated that over the past year, we have witnessed the gradual decline in power and prestige of the Daesh Takfiri terrorist group in the region, especially in Iraq and Syria.

The member of the Political Studies Association of the Islamic Seminary of Qom stated, “By the grace of God, today the world has witnessed the power of the Islamic Resistance Front in the fight against the Takfiri phenomenon.”

“Of course, the resistance and steadfastness of the Islamic Republic of Iran alongside the Islamic Resistance Front is undeniable,” he added.

Dr. Furati said that Saudi Arabia faces problems and challenges in regard to the current situation in the Middle East and added, “Although, the United States, even under President Donald Trump, still provides support to Saudi Arabia and Al Saud but the realities in the region, particularly in Yemen, Syria, Iraq and Bahrain demonstrate that the Saudis have failed to reach their goals and ideals.”

The faculty member of the Institute of Islamic Thought and Culture also noted that the formation and parading of Daesh and other Takfiri terrorist groups is a result of the policies and plans in the West and the US and explained that this due to the recent series of successes by the Islamic Resistance Front which have stalled Daesh’s expansion.

“Sooner or later, the territory of Daesh’s caliphate will be diminished but their ideology will be long-lasting and it may be used in other forms in the future,” he said.

In 2014, Daesh scored its first victories and made rapid gains in northern Iraq and eastern Syria and came to control a wide swath of territory equal in size to the United Kingdom.

As of 2017, Daesh is no longer a unified force, but still retains about 15,000 fighters. The Takfiri terror group has also lost about 65 percent of the territory it once held.
