Rasa - A senior Egyptian legislator disclosed that Qatar, Turkey and Israel are supporting the terrorist groups and their operations in the Sinai Peninsula and other parts of Egypt.

"The terrorist groups are mercenaries backed by the world powers and the reactionary regimes and the latter group uses the terrorists to implement its destructive plots," Hatam Abdolhamid told on Saturday.

Noting that Qatar, Turkey and Israel are among the regional sides which use the terrorist groups to implement their plots, he said, "Doha, Ankara and Tel Aviv are behind all terrorist operations in the Sinai and they are attempting to spread terrorism to all parts of Egypt."

His remarks came after terrorists killed eight police in an attack on a checkpoint in el-Wadi el-Gedid province in Southwest Egypt.

Two of the attackers were killed when security forces fought back, and three other security personnel were injured, the interior ministry said in a statement last Tuesday.

The attack took place on al-Naqab checkpoint, about 80 kilometers (50 miles) from el-Kharga city, the capital of the province, the ministry said.

Militants have killed hundreds of soldiers and policemen since the military overthrow of democratically-elected president Mohamed Morsi in 2013, which was followed by a bloody crackdown on his supporters.

Most of the attacks have taken place in the North of the Sinai Peninsula, which borders Israel and the Palestinian Gaza Strip. Attacks have occurred in other parts of the country, including Cairo.
