Ayatollah Rajabi:
Rasa – Ayatollah Rajabi said, “There is no doubt the extension of Iran Sanctions Act by ten years is a violation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and we think the negotiating team itself has also accepted this.”

RNA – In an interview with Rasa News Agency, Ayatollah Mahmoud Rajabi, a member of the Society of Seminary Teachers of Qom, referred to the legislation by the United States’ House of Representatives to extend the Iran Sanctions Act (ISA) by ten years and said, “There is no doubt this act is a violation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and we think the negotiating team itself has also accepted this.”

The US House of Representatives voted for a 10-year extension of the ISA earlier this month but to become law, the bill has to be endorsed by the Senate as well and signed by the US president.

The deputy of the Imam Khomeini Institute added that it’s stipulated in the JCPOA that all the sanctions will be removed and no new sanctions will be imposed and said, “It’s natural that they make excuses to impose sanctions on us but what was required in the JCPOA is that no new sanctions would be imposed on Iran, especially since some of the sanctions were raised because of the nuclear issue.”

Ayatollah Rajabi responded to claims by some Americans that Iran has violated the JCPOA and said, “This shows that our enemies – the imperialist powers of the world – aren’t committed to anything. If dozens of treaties and another JCPOA takes place, we will have no confidence in the imperialist powers.”

He continued, “We see that imperialist powers don’t act according to their commitments but rather they act opposite to their commitments. It was stated that they would remove the sanctions and obstacles imposed on Iran’s banks but they didn’t and they have no reservations about saying that they aren’t going to do anything.”

His Eminence said that instead of fulfilling their commitments, the enemies have extended the sanctions which are certainly a violation of the JCPOA and said, “The Supreme Leader warned that measures should be taken step by step but the authorities and officials haven’t observed such commandments. The enemies feel that which Iran must accomplish, has been accomplished, so for which reason should they take any action.”

In conclusion, Ayatollah Rajabi said that what is required of the JCPOA must be done – meaning if the JCPOA says that in the case of any violations of the JCPOA, complaints should be made. If they are carried out at an early stage, naturally, the enemies won’t take the next step.
