Rasa - A Bahraini political activist took a swipe at the Al Khalifa ruling regime for its plans to create sectarian strife in the Persian Gulf country by harassing Shiite Muslims and restricting their freedom.

RNA - Targeting Shiite Muslims has now become the Manama regime’s main objective, Abdulilah al-Mahoozi told Tasnim.

Slamming the Al Khalifa’s plans to promote sectarianism, the political activist said the ruling regime continues to affront the Shiite clerics, symbols, religious rites and religious leaders, such as Sheikh Isa Qassim.

The Al Khalifa regime announced on June 20 that the citizenship of Sheikh Qassim has been revoked, accusing him of sowing sectarian divisions.

Bahrain, a close ally of the US in the Persian Gulf region, has been witnessing almost daily protests against the ruling Al Khalifa dynasty since early 2011, with Manama using heavy-handed measures in an attempt to crush the demonstrations.

Scores of Bahrainis have been killed and hundreds of others injured and arrested in the ongoing crackdown on the peaceful demonstrations.
