RNA – On the tenth anniversary of the 2006 33-Day War in Lebanon, Shaykh Ahmad al-Qattan, the head of Lebanon’s Qawluna wal-Amal [We Say and Act] Society, discussed the current situation of Hezbollah and the position of the Islamic Resistance among the country’s Sunnis with Rasa News Agency.

The Lebanese Sunni scholar noted that after Hezbollah’s historic achievement in 2006, the Islamic Resistance group was able to consolidate its power but its opposition have completely failed to acheive their goals to eliminate this Islamic Resistance group, which played a pivotal role in the fight against Israel.

“In fact, Hezbollah didn’t only defeat Israel in 2006 but also they defeated several regimes in the region. Certain countries still have problems with the role of Hezbollah in the Middle East and are plotting to eliminate the group,” he noted.

Shaykh al-Qattan said that during the 33-Day War, the majority of the Lebanese people and the Lebanese army backed Hezbollah according to their ability or position. The clergy used their Friday prayer sermons to encourage young people to join the Resistance and protect Lebanon against the Zionist threat.

He explained that Sunni and Shi’a mosques also held ceremonies to pray for the Resistance during the war and Hezbollah has very good relations with Lebanese Sunni scholars. The experiences during the war proved that Hezbollah had become a very strong force which was capable of protecting Lebanon.

“For this reason, every Muslim and every free person in the world can be proud of the Lebanese Resistance,” the cleric added.

In regard to Syria, the head of Lebanon’s Qawluna wal-Amal Society said that a large number of innocent civilians were killed in the name of reform and revolution and many crimes are witnessed daily in the name of Islam and Muslims in the country. Hezbollah was able to take timely measures to prevent Takfiri elements from expanding further and didn’t allow them to advance.

Shaykh al-Qattan added that firstly, Hezbollah went to Syria to strengthen the country against terrorism and secondly, their presence led to security in Lebanon. “By discovering and eliminating Takfiri elements, the Resistance wasn’t just able to help Syria, but also strengthened Lebanon’s security,” the Sunni cleric stated.

He emphasized that Hezbollah has engaged in adequate measures to prevent terrorist forces from entering Lebanon from Syria and protecting the lives of people of all faiths and tribes in the country.
