RNA – Hujjat al-Islam Mahdi Mahdavipour, the Supreme Leader’s Representative in India, offered his condolences to the people and scholars of India on the passing of Hujjat al-Islam Muhammad-Husayn Zakiri, the founder of the Imam Khomeini Memorial Trust and one of the great scholars of the Indian city of Kargil.

Hujjat al-Islam Zakiri was born in 1940 into a religious family in the city of Kargil in the northwestern Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir and passed away on July 28, 2016 at the age of 76.

After completing his elementary Islamic studies in his hometown, he moved to the Iraqi holy city of Najaf with the intention of joining the Islamic Seminary to gain knowledge from great scholars there.

Due to illness, His Eminence returned to India in 1971 and in 1973, founded the Islamic Association of Kargil.

He traveled to various cities throughout India where he strived to introduce the Islamic sciences and familiarize the people with the Iranian Islamic Revolution.

In his message, Hujjat al-Islam Mahdavipour wrote that Hujjat al-Islam Zakiri was a pious scholar, a missionary and a sincere and brave warrior who understood the luminous call and message of the Islamic Revolution and made efforts to defend it and the thought of the late Imam Khomeini.

The Iranian cleric explained that the late Hujjat al-Islam Zakiri established the Imam Khomeini Memorial Trust of Kargil-Ladakh in 1979 in order to promote the spiritual and political doctrine of the founder of Iran’s Islamic Revolution among the people of the Ladakh region and to familiarize them with the values of the Islamic Revolution.

“Hujjat al-Islam Zakiri, along with a number of scholars, did not spare any effort on this path and with self-sacrifice and devotion, he continued until the end of life,” he said.

He stressed that Hujjat al-Islam Zakiri paid allegiance and adhered to the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei, and sacrificed his entire existence on this path.

Hujjat al-Islam Mahdavipour added that this Kashmiri scholar supported the message and movement of Islamic unity and solidarity, stressing that it safeguards the values of the Islamic Revolution and the ideas of Imam Khomeini.
