RNA – Grand Ayatollah Naser Makarem-Shirazi has offered his condolences on the demise of Hujjat al-Islam Sayyid Jawad al-Wida‘i, a prominent Shi’a Muslim cleric was one of the most prominent leaders of the Bahraini revolution.

 

Hujjat al-Islam al-Wida’i, who passed away at the age of 93 on Monday, was hospitalized last Friday after his health deteriorated.

 

The Shi’a cleric was known as a popular leader who fought for human rights in Bahrain. He was an outspoken critic of the al-Khalifah regime and signed many anti-regime statements made public by other renowned Bahraini clerics and activists.

 

Ayatollah Makarem’s message is as follows:

 

This great scholar worked closely with other prominent Bahraini scholars to restore the inalienable rights of the Bahraini people and his efforts in this regard can never be forgotten

I wish to express my sincerest condolences on the occasion of the demise of the great scholar, the late Hujjat al-Islam Sayyid Jawad al-Wida’i.

Once again, I extend my most heartfelt condolences to his family, all Bahraini scholars, and the Bahraini Shi’as.
