RNA – A sorrowful memorial ceremony for Ms Sakineh Payvandi, the dear mother of Iran’s president, Hujjat al-Islam Dr Hassan Rohani, was held on Wednesday evening in the presence of several sources of emulation, clerics, scholars, seminarians and a large number of lay people at Qom’s Masjid al-A’dham (Grand Mosque).

 

Grand Ayatollah’s Naser Makarem-Shirazi, Abdollah Javadi-Amoli, Sayyed Musa Shobeyri-Zanjani, Nouri-Hamadani, Ja’far Sobhani, Hujjat al-Islam Mohammad Mohammadi-Golpaygani (chief of the Supreme Leader’s office), Ayatollah Ebrahim Amini, Ayatollah Ahmad Khatami, Ayatollah Mohsen Araki, Hujjat al-Islam Sayyed Mohmmad Sa’idi (the trustee of the Holy Shine of Lady Fatimah al-Ma’sumah), Hujjat al-Islam Sayyed Javad Shahrestani, Hujjat al-Islam Sayyed Hasan Khomeini were among those scholars and sources of emulation who attended.

 

A number of representatives of major cultural and religious organizations and institutions linked to the Islamic Seminary of Qom and the local Qom municipal and city government were also present.

 

President Rouhani arrived in Qom on Wednesday afternoon and, after making a pilgrimage to the holy shrine of Lady Fatimah al-Ma’sumah, attended the memorial ceremony.

 

Hujjat al-Islam Sayyed Ahmad Salehi-Khansari, a scholar in the Holy Seminary of Qom gave the eulogy and a lecture.

 

An earlier memorial ceremony was held Wednesday morning in Tehran in the presence of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei.


Sakineh Payvandi, who departed this life after several months of illness, had been in hospital for several days before her demise. She was 90 years old.
