RNA - In a meeting with a group of meteorological officials from the province of Qom, Grand Ayatollah Hoseyn Nouri-Hamadani said that in matters under the control human life, we should try to make better use of the blessings of God by preserving the living environment which God blessed us with.
He pointed out that in the past, all cities and provinces were full of gardens and lands were very productive, explaining that many cities throughout Iran suffer from excessive urban development and reckless construction.
His Eminence suggested that government officials must seek solutions to environmental concerns by reviving the urban gardens and farmlands of the past to replace urban excesses, emphasizing the loss of productive gardens lands has a serious and direct effect on weather – causing extreme heat, low rainfall and prohibits healthy tree growth.
Ayatollah Nouri-Hamadani stated that the loss of forests, gardens and a healthy living environment as a major disaster, saying: “If something is not done to solve this problem, the situation will get even worse. When unity, compassion and affection does not exist, the country [suffers] this manner.”
The renowned scholar explained that today’s highly advanced technology and the knowledge of Iran’s scientists that can help them solve these problems. Each point on the earth’s soil is suitable for cultivating crops and we can use the work produced by agricultural experts for these lands to become more productive. “Presently, there is much land throughout the country which is not being used. Experts should study how these lands can be used to their maximum extent,” he explained.
Ayatollah Nouri-Hamadani stressed that one must reduce the amount of water they use when performing wudhu or ghusl [minor and major ablutions]. “Many people use more than ten times more water than necessary when they perform wudhu or ghusl. Also, they do the same when turning on every light in their houses at night – this is a waste,” he warned.
The revered source of emulation stressed that the government should be paying particular attention to environmental issues, and warned that the relevant authorities must take their jobs seriously to solve the environmental problems Iran faces.
Ayatollah Nouri-Hamadani also expressed concern over the low precipitation and emphasized that if a country faces a drought, the people should fast for three days and then pray a special congregational prayer requesting rain from God.
