Rasa News Agency reports from Iraq – Ayatollah Mohammad Ya’qoubi, an Iraqi source of emulation, has issued a message of congratulations on the liberation of the Shi’ite Turkmen town of Amerli has been liberated from the Takfiri terrorists of so-called ‘Islamic State.’

Amerli, and its population of about 15,000 Shi’ah Turkmen was besieged by the ‘Islamic State’ starting in June 2014. It was running out of food, water, and supplies and most of the population fled to the nearby Sinjar Mountains where they suffered immense hunger and thirst. Those who remained in Amerli, suffered unspeakable horrors at the hands of the Takfiris. On August 31, the Iraqi army managed to break the siege and entered the city, much to the rejoicing of its citizens. His Eminence wrote: “The brave Iraqi warriors have liberated the city of Amerli from the modern-day Khawarij who are bloodthirsty criminals. Once again our hearts have been calmed and smiles have returned to our once grief-stricken faces.”

Ayatollah Ya’qoubi mentioned the siege which befell the Christian and Izadi people of Nineveh province at the hands of the Takfiri terrorists was largely forgotten until they escaped into the mountains. It was only after two months that the West heard their screams for help. The liberation of Amerli at the hands of the Iraqi army shows that they can administer and secure their own country. He emphasized the need to for society to maintain the atmosphere of jihad and urged the soldiers to not be proud of this victory because the enemies are constantly planning against Iraq.

His Eminence explained that some media sources have attributed the liberation of Amerli to the aid of Western military forces but reporters have refuted this, saying they only flew in food aid. “The defeat of the Takfiri terrorists is a sign of their cowardice and their inability to fight the holy warriors. The perpetrators must be punished for their crimes,” Ayatollah Ya’qoubi concluded.
