RNA – In a statement, the Policy Council of Friday Prayer Leaders stated that Friday prayers would not be held in the capitals of all of Iran’s 31 provinces.

Iranian health authorities said on Wednesday that nearly 9,000 people had confirmed positive for coronavirus in the country since the infection was spotted on February 19.

A total of 354 have died of the virus while the number of people released from hospitals after recovering from the illness has reached nearly 3,000.

The text of this statement is as follows:

In His Name, the Most High

We inform the believing and revolutionary people of Islamic Iran, especially the dear worshippers, that following the announcement of the National Headquarters for the Management of the Coronavirus and negotiations with the Honourable Minister of Health and Medical Education [Sa’id Namaki], Friday prayers will not be held in the capitals of all provinces on March 13, 2020.

As it was last week, the holding of Friday prayers will be based on the decisions of provincial committees, which consist of the honourable representatives of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution in the provincial capitals.

Seize the opportunity to invite the noble public to resort and appeal to the main healer and the intercessors in the presence of the Almighty God, to invite all to trust and accompany the unified command on the battlefield against the Coronavirus to quickly overcome the difficult circumstances of the present. We commemorate the memory of the martyrs in the health arena, the dedicated efforts of doctors and nurses, the healthcare staff of the country and the manufacturers of health products needed by the people.
